BIC Intensity: Social Media Campaign
My Roles: Illustration/ Design / Animation
Project Overview
This project marked another vibrant and creatively rewarding collaboration between The Berry Boys and myself. I was responsible for creating all illustrated assets, animating them, and compositing everything within a stylized 3D environment layered over live-action footage.
The Challenge:
The challenge was to integrate hand-drawn illustration directly onto the clothing of Carlota Dudek, a French Olympic breakdancer known for her explosive, high-speed movement.
What appeared straightforward became a significant technical challenge in execution:
Rotoscoping a breakdancer who moves at lightning speed required painstaking precision.
Tracking the illustrated flames onto her clothing proved especially difficult due to motion blur and rapid changes in angle.
The Solution:
Despite the demanding motion and speed, we successfully rotoscoped the footage to isolate Carlotas. To maintain visual fidelity, particularly during fast spins and transitions, we manually tracked some of the animated elements frame by frame, especially where the illustrated flame needed to seamlessly “stick” to her clothing.
The hand-drawn animation was created using the BIC Intensity Marker, lending an authentic, textured aesthetic that feels raw and full of motion—mirroring Carlota’s dynamic energy.
